Lexington Health Network Acquires New AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill
Lombard, IL – It used to be that only astronauts got to experience gravity reduction, but now the technology is being used inside Lexington Health Care Centers to successfully aid in post-acute rehabilitation for those recovering from an acute illness, chronic condition or surgery or who require physical therapy to achieve their prior level of functioning and independence. Typically used by professional sports teams and elite medical centers, Lexington Health Network is using the AlterG Anti-Gravity treadmills in seven of its ten health care centers to speed patients’ rehabilitation. The Lexington Health Care Center of Streamwood is hosting three demonstration events to showcase this impressive piece of equipment to the general public.
Lexington Health Care Center of Streamwood, an independent and assisted living facility offering post-acute care services, is hosting three demonstration events for the general public to experience the newest in patented NASA technology for rehabilitation, the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill. Using lower body positive pressure which offers precise weight bearing of 20 to 100 percent of a patient’s body weight, the AlterG is more effective for rehabilitating patients to walk and run again than any other rehabilitation therapy. An AlterG representative will be available to give demonstrations.

About the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill
With any injury, the recovery process can be long and challenging. The AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill can help optimize treatment outcomes to get patients back faster to the activities they love. Patented NASA technology allows for precise partial weight bearing which means people on the mend can train like never before. In fact, professional teams and elite medical facilities are using the AlterG to revolutionize recovery programs.
Originally conceived by Dr. Robert Whalen to design effective exercise regimens for NASA’s astronauts, Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology has been adapted by AlterG for use in training and rehabilitation. Cleared by the FDA in 2008, the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill is a medical device that can be used for rehabilitation of lower extremity injuries, treatment of neurological conditions, weight reduction, aerobic conditioning and general training to combat the diseases of aging.
Unweighting is achieved in the AlterG by using air in a pressure-controlled chamber to gently lift the user. Precise calibration using patented technology allows for very specific unweighting from 100-20% of the users body weight in 1% increments. Something no other unweighting modality can do. Clinical studies show that these amazing treadmills can help decrease ground reaction forces in walking and running. The restoration of normal gait mechanics is paramount to optimal recovery and can be accelerated by AlterG’s patented unweighting technology. Allowing for the protection of healing tissue, the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill encourages range of motion and earlier initiation of closed-kinetic chain activity. Plus, it prevents disuse atrophy and encourages more rapid return of motor control. For more information, please visit: http://www.alter-g.com/product/anti-gravity-treadmills
